Catherine Marchand
Catherine had a passion for art since she was a little girl growing up in Ontario. She often found herself sketching people on the bus to and from school and ended up in her late teens working as a glass blower sculpturing glass in many different forms including the figure. From early on she was drawn to the human form.
After years of exploring with different mediums while she was raising her children, Catherine picked up a brush and fell in love with oil painting. She then decided to devote herself to training in figurative painting and studied at the Academy of Realist Art in Alberta (ARTRA). She then went on to perfect her skills by studying with Master artists across Canada and the United States. Her absolute favorite living master artist is Daniel Gerhartz who she has had the privilege of studying under a couple of times. Other artist’s work who inspire her still today have been, Sorolla, Singer-Sargent, Pino and Richard Schmidt.
Preferring to work from life as much as possible she uses bold brush strokes of color and a strong source of light to give her ‘Romantic Realism’ style of painting a life of its own. Most of her work reflects a simpler time for she loves Jane Austin novels and is a romantic at heart.
She recognizes the beauty she sees all around her were created by a loving God and any talent she has is a gift from Him as James 1:17 states ‘Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights’
She currently resides with her husband in Spruce Grove, Alberta.
